Estelí, Nicaragua Evangelism/ VBS Campaign, June 11-19, 2009

Report on the Estelí, Nicaragua Evengelism/ VBS Campaign, June 11-19, 2009

This was the second campaign in Estelí, the first being in 2007. There is now a different preacher in place, brother Pablo Castellon, due to brother Cesar Martinez wanting to relocate.  The team was made up of 15 Christians from the U.S. and about 22 from Nicaragua and Costa Rica .door knocjng in Esteli, Nicaragua, June 2009

We went door knocking every day, held VBS every day, and preached the gospel every night. It was a productive campaign, with ten baptisms and five restorations.

The team and I carried several books in our luggage for the preachers to advance their personal studies. We also purchased Bibles in Nicaragua for all the new converts.

I am also thankful to brother Mike Watters, who took me to Managua and took the lead to finish up the week. Other team members, such as brothers Quent Herring and Paul Potier, helped as well and it comforting to leave the team in such good hands!

There is currently an average attendance of 45 (25 members, 12 children, 6 visitors).  Since the campaign, Pablo reported one baptism, two marriages and one other restoration. Brother Pablo is doing a good job in following up!

The  Lakeside church of Christ in Orange Park, FL supports the work in Estelí, and we appreciate the efforts they put into it!

About 3 and 1/2 days into the campaign, I started feeling bad; bad enough in fact that I came back to the States early. The afternoon after arriving home, I went to the ER had an EKG, was checked into the hospital for a nuclear stress test, and later an upper GI. Nothing serious was found, and I am relieved to know it was not my heart (although I thought it was at one point).  Many thanks for all the emails, concern and prayers!

While in Nicaragua , I met with all the preachers, encouraging them to stay the course and keep their report coming.  Please keep the Christians in Nicaragua in your prayers.

Yours in Crist,
Roger Leonard
